Running errands today I saw a lady walking her mother from her car to the Farmer’s Market dressed in the most elaborate, sparkling shoes I’ve seen in a long time.
I wish I had taken a picture. I helped her get a basket for their purchases and then was on my way.
About 10 minutes later we were both leaving at the same time, but she was already in her car. I motioned for her to roll down the window, which she did. I told her how much I liked her shoes.
She said she found them at Savers – a local discount resale store similar to Goodwill. Her comment was, “I fell in love with them, but don’t go out any more all dressed up. I decided to buy them anyway and wear them when I go shopping!”
That comment tickled my soul. Why do we wait to wear our “dressy” clothes only for “special” occasions?
Isn’t everyday of life a SPECIAL OCCASION? Just the joy of waking up again is a blessing.
Finding the “sacred” in the ordinary is a gift we all can cultivate. As for me, one “Simply Sacred Sunday” last year I planted daffodils. Now they are in bloom.
Unfortunately my schedule hasn’t allowed me to plant them so far this year. I’m headed out to “play” in the mud pulling weeks in order to prepare a location to plant some more beautiful golden ladies in my garden.
It is very much true that everyday is a special day, and we need to celebrate the gift of life everyday/every second.
