Secret Sauce Ingredients for Sacred Spaces – Heart of the Home

One of my readers and Feng Shui clients requested I give more detail about the process I use to create sacred spaces. She has experienced my work first hand and how it changed the energy of her home dramatically for the positive.

According to Feng Shui, the kitchen is usually the hearth & heart of home.

According to Feng Shui, the kitchen is usually the hearth & heart of home.

Even people who visited her home after I did the work remarked about the “Brightness” and “Lightness” even the “Joy” they felt in the home following my work. Mind you, her home already was beautiful and displayed several spiritual icons increasing the vibration; yet there was more that could be done to really make the home support her dreams.

In the next few weeks I will share different parts of the process I perform.

Today we’ll start with the base foundation in the creation of an altar to sanctify the heart of the home. It is usually the kitchen or greatroom. I say “usually” because we are looking for the “heart” or “hearth” of the home. We’re looking for the centering location where the family gathers. That used to be the central hearth or fireplace where food was cooked and where bodies were warmed.

Once we locate the center, we clear an area to make an altar. In the kitchen it could be a counter or table. If it is a family room, you might use a table. If there isn’t anything flat, you can always use the floor.

Using a special cloth, lay it out to create a base and focal point for the altar. I have gold-threaded cloths from Bali I use, but a table cloth, dish or hand towel, scarf or small rug can be used.

In preparing the altar for the ceremony, I place my main altar cloth down with a secondary cloth, known as an Angel Cloth, on top of it. Then, to honor the Four Directions I place a narrow cloth the color of the corresponding direction.

The next step is to honor the Four Directions – north, south, east and west. If you have a cultural background with particular elements or objects associated with the directions, use them as part of the display placing them in the correct locations. I use the colors from a couple different cultures.

I set them up following this formula: North is water and blue; South is fire and red; East is wood and green; and, West is metal and white (or metal colors like silver, gold and bronze).

Start looking for the energetic center of your home and, within that area, a place to create your altar. Gather items to honor the Four Directions.

In my next post I’ll share more steps you can follow.

Please share what items you have found to represent the Four Directions and any successes you have had with me in the comments area below.

Healthy Home, Healthy Body!

Toxic homes have caused several of my serious health issues. How about you? Do you know if your home is making you sick or hurting your loved ones?

"The Healthy Home Workbook" cover, the first course I took to learn about creating a healthy home environment back in 1995 when I was told I'd never walk again. I found the cleaning products in my bathroom were causing me the extreme pain and joint issues.

I’ve recently had a dear friend die from cancer and two other “best” friends diagnosed with cancer who are now about to go through chemotherapy. My heart aches for the pain and suffering they, as well as their families, are going through. I have been in their shoes several times, both with my husband’s diagnosis and mine. We found the toxins from cleaning products, and then other pollutants we had inadvertently brought into our home, were either the cause of the health issues or definitely not supporting our healing. We “cleaned up our home” by cleaning out the chemicals.

I have been using eco-friendly cleaning products for about 15 years. I’d been using Melaleuca’s tea tree oil for a few medicinal purposes, yet I didn’t know they had cleaning products. About 3 years ago I was introduced to them and I haven’t looked back since. In fact, I’m so impressed with them I shared the information with my daughter Melanie. She is a lovely, intellectual lady who investigates and questions, rather than just taking someone else’s word about anything.

Here's the training manual for becoming a Certified Green Building Professional. I took the course in 2005. That's when I learned there was mold in my house and I was highly allergic to it. It caused me to lose my voice.

Melanie has three boys active in all sorts of sports. When she used the Melaleuca Ecosense Laundry product, she found it got out the foul “locker room” smells from the boy’s uniforms. Then she started the boys on the snacks and healthy sports/energy products. These boys were out-performing their teammates who were not using them. Now most of the teammates also are onboard with the products.

I share this background information for a few reasons.

First, if you or a loved one have health issues, PLEASE get rid of the toxic household cleaning products. I can say from personal experience they are causing serious health issues. There is new documentation on this everyday.

Second, as you know, up to this point, I have not promoted products in my blog. I’m sharing this information about Melaleuca because I believe in the products. My daughter Melanie is now a director with Melaleuca. She will be happy to help you learn more about them so you can make intelligent decisions. Whether it is about the products you use for household cleaning, personal care products or nutritional supplements and health foods, there are many choices out there.

I love that I don’t have to go to Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and/or Costco to find all the products I need. It saves me time. The products meet my standards on a humanitarian level with no animal testing. The company is debt-free, which shows me they are business-savvy. Money is spent on research and development of products, not on advertising. And – they want to educate me about the company and their products. They do so with their “Learn to Earn” program.

The following year Build It Green, the organization who conceived and implemented the Certified Green Building Professional training developed an advanced course. Here is the cover for Advanced Training for Certified Green Building Professionals where more depth was covered on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), mold prevention and system implementation for "sealing the envelope" were taught.

And, lastly, some of the nutritional products and supplements are helping people who are going through health issues by giving them the nutrition and energy needed to tackle the courses of treatment like chemo and radiation. Some products are improving the quality of life by reducing or eliminating pain.

I was diagnosed with “arthritis” about 2 decades ago. I have found various supplements through my acupuncturist to allow me movement with less pain. A torn ligament in my foot last year caused me to do physical therapy. The process has irritated my knees. I started taking Replenex just over 2 months ago. I no longer have any pain – NONE! I’m able to do all the movements needed to play in my garden.

Please make your home a “Healthy Home!” If you are using non-ecofriendly products, please consider changing them out in order to make your home a safe place for your loved ones and yourself. If you have some health issues, learn all you can about nutrition to improve your body’s well-being. Feline Feng Shui for Hot Days

My cat, Nick, presented me with just the right Feng Shui examples for living today.

100 degrees in the shade per car dashboard

100 degrees in the shade per car dashboard

It had been an emotionally challenging day hearing about serious health issues several of my closest women friends are experiencing. Plus, just yesterday I attended a “Celebration of Life” gathering for a gentleman, Robert Stevens Fish, PhD., who was instrumental in helping me become the person I am today through encouragement and inspiration. My heart was heavy with grief; my mind reeling with thoughts as I tried to stay positive for everyones’ sake.

Nick sound asleep on the table during his catnap in 100 degree temperatures.

It has been unbearably hot where I live. Even though I am a Southern California raised girl, having spent the last 50 years in Northern California, I’m not used to temperatures over 90 degrees. Yesterday’s outside temp according to the car display reached 115 degrees. Today it had cooled down to 100 degrees in the shade.

When I arrived home I found my male cat, Nick, sprawled out on the patio table sound asleep. Normally a skittish cat, Nick didn’t move when I opened the door. He finally budged a little, just enough to let me know he wanted a little hands-on loving. Grateful for the opportunity to oblige him, I sat down in a chair where he came to rub against me.

Here’s what I learned from him today, especially the Feng Shui elements – Feng meaning “wind” and Shui meaning “water” (some of these are inspired by the little book Fang Shui by Catfucius):

Nick wakes up just enough to get love.

Nick wakes up just enough to get love.

  • The more naps you take, the more awakenings you have, the more enlightened you are.
  • When napping on hot days, sleep in the shade on a wood table with slats to allow “wind” ventilation to occur on all sides of the body. Feng/wind energy is “good” Feng Shui.
  • Stretch body as much as possible to allow fur to part, exposing skin, thus allowing exposure from any movement of air flow for further bodily cooling. Again, Feng/wind energy is “good” Feng Shui.
  • When through allowing human to pet, go to cold pan of water (Shui energy). Step into the water with both front feet to cool down (“good” Feng Shui), then take a long drink. When through, go back to human when they are meditating – jumping on them with wet feet first onto their bare skin. This will cause them to have a real “awakening” experience  – hopefully followed by enlightenment!
  • When the needs of humans and cats coincide, peace and harmony will prevail.
  • When peace and tranquility are achieved, purring may commence.

The day ends Purrr-fectly!
