Toxic homes have caused several of my serious health issues. How about you? Do you know if your home is making you sick or hurting your loved ones?

“The Healthy Home Workbook” cover, the first course I took to learn about creating a healthy home environment back in 1995 when I was told I’d never walk again. I found the cleaning products in my bathroom were causing me the extreme pain and joint issues.
I’ve recently had a dear friend die from cancer and two other “best” friends diagnosed with cancer who are now about to go through chemotherapy. My heart aches for the pain and suffering they, as well as their families, are going through. I have been in their shoes several times, both with my husband’s diagnosis and mine. We found the toxins from cleaning products, and then other pollutants we had inadvertently brought into our home, were either the cause of the health issues or definitely not supporting our healing. We “cleaned up our home” by cleaning out the chemicals.
I have been using eco-friendly cleaning products for about 15 years. I’d been using Melaleuca’s tea tree oil for a few medicinal purposes, yet I didn’t know they had cleaning products. About 3 years ago I was introduced to them and I haven’t looked back since. In fact, I’m so impressed with them I shared the information with my daughter Melanie. She is a lovely, intellectual lady who investigates and questions, rather than just taking someone else’s word about anything.

Here’s the training manual for becoming a Certified Green Building Professional. I took the course in 2005. That’s when I learned there was mold in my house and I was highly allergic to it. It caused me to lose my voice.
Melanie has three boys active in all sorts of sports. When she used the Melaleuca Ecosense Laundry product, she found it got out the foul “locker room” smells from the boy’s uniforms. Then she started the boys on the snacks and healthy sports/energy products. These boys were out-performing their teammates who were not using them. Now most of the teammates also are onboard with the products.
I share this background information for a few reasons.
First, if you or a loved one have health issues, PLEASE get rid of the toxic household cleaning products. I can say from personal experience they are causing serious health issues. There is new documentation on this everyday.
Second, as you know, up to this point, I have not promoted products in my blog. I’m sharing this information about Melaleuca because I believe in the products. My daughter Melanie is now a director with Melaleuca. She will be happy to help you learn more about them so you can make intelligent decisions. Whether it is about the products you use for household cleaning, personal care products or nutritional supplements and health foods, there are many choices out there.
I love that I don’t have to go to Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and/or Costco to find all the products I need. It saves me time. The products meet my standards on a humanitarian level with no animal testing. The company is debt-free, which shows me they are business-savvy. Money is spent on research and development of products, not on advertising. And – they want to educate me about the company and their products. They do so with their “Learn to Earn” program.

The following year Build It Green, the organization who conceived and implemented the Certified Green Building Professional training developed an advanced course. Here is the cover for Advanced Training for Certified Green Building Professionals where more depth was covered on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), mold prevention and system implementation for “sealing the envelope” were taught.
And, lastly, some of the nutritional products and supplements are helping people who are going through health issues by giving them the nutrition and energy needed to tackle the courses of treatment like chemo and radiation. Some products are improving the quality of life by reducing or eliminating pain.
I was diagnosed with “arthritis” about 2 decades ago. I have found various supplements through my acupuncturist to allow me movement with less pain. A torn ligament in my foot last year caused me to do physical therapy. The process has irritated my knees. I started taking Replenex just over 2 months ago. I no longer have any pain – NONE! I’m able to do all the movements needed to play in my garden.
Please make your home a “Healthy Home!” If you are using non-ecofriendly products, please consider changing them out in order to make your home a safe place for your loved ones and yourself. If you have some health issues, learn all you can about nutrition to improve your body’s well-being. If you would like to learn more about Melaleuca, please contact my daughter Melanie at: MelanieJHellmann@gmail.com
Here’s to your Healthy Home and YOUR Health!
In the comments, please tell me about your personal experiences with health issues and the home. If you have any questions, I’ll do my best to answer them.

My cat, Nick, presented me with just the right Feng Shui examples for living today.

100 degrees in the shade per car dashboard
It had been an emotionally challenging day hearing about serious health issues several of my closest women friends are experiencing. Plus, just yesterday I attended a “Celebration of Life” gathering for a gentleman, Robert Stevens Fish, PhD., who was instrumental in helping me become the person I am today through encouragement and inspiration. My heart was heavy with grief; my mind reeling with thoughts as I tried to stay positive for everyones’ sake.

Nick sound asleep on the table during his catnap in 100 degree temperatures.
It has been unbearably hot where I live. Even though I am a Southern California raised girl, having spent the last 50 years in Northern California, I’m not used to temperatures over 90 degrees. Yesterday’s outside temp according to the car display reached 115 degrees. Today it had cooled down to 100 degrees in the shade.
When I arrived home I found my male cat, Nick, sprawled out on the patio table sound asleep. Normally a skittish cat, Nick didn’t move when I opened the door. He finally budged a little, just enough to let me know he wanted a little hands-on loving. Grateful for the opportunity to oblige him, I sat down in a chair where he came to rub against me.
Here’s what I learned from him today, especially the Feng Shui elements – Feng meaning “wind” and Shui meaning “water” (some of these are inspired by the little book Fang Shui by Catfucius):

Nick wakes up just enough to get love.
- The more naps you take, the more awakenings you have, the more enlightened you are.
- When napping on hot days, sleep in the shade on a wood table with slats to allow “wind” ventilation to occur on all sides of the body. Feng/wind energy is “good” Feng Shui.
- Stretch body as much as possible to allow fur to part, exposing skin, thus allowing exposure from any movement of air flow for further bodily cooling. Again, Feng/wind energy is “good” Feng Shui.
- When through allowing human to pet, go to cold pan of water (Shui energy). Step into the water with both front feet to cool down (“good” Feng Shui), then take a long drink. When through, go back to human when they are meditating – jumping on them with wet feet first onto their bare skin. This will cause them to have a real “awakening” experience – hopefully followed by enlightenment!
- When the needs of humans and cats coincide, peace and harmony will prevail.
- When peace and tranquility are achieved, purring may commence.
The day ends Purrr-fectly!

Plates of flowers with a tea candle are prepared at the kitchen sink area where they will rest until the altar clothes are in place with the essential oils and bells.
I had the honor to create a Home Blessing for a client today who is “paying it forward” karmically. I normally would not be working on Sunday since it is “family day,” and, yet, sometimes I need to do things differently when intuition kicks in telling me so.
My client, who is a lovely lady, understands energy. We have worked together several times in the last few years changing the energy in your home using Feng Shui. There was a lot of clutter and not much clarity regarding career. Making Feng Shui changes to her home, she got her perfect career opportunity.
One of the things she wanted to do with her home was to remodel it using green and sustainable building practices, but she didn’t have the finances to be able to invest that much into her home. Interestingly enough there was a sudden water leakage in the main area she wanted to remodel the most. This leak was covered by her insurance policy.

Altar with view of the dining room table as I’m about to light the candles on the plates, a signal to my body, mind and spirit the ritual is about to begin.
I came to her home helping her to make decisions around green building procedures and products. In the process she shared there were some issues with relationships. I explained to her you never can tell the Universe what you want, you only can make the corrections. If for “the Highest and Best Good” means bringing people closer together, it will. If it means they are to separate and go down different paths for “the Highest and Best Good” for both parties, they will leave the current relationship or develop new playing rules for each.
About a month ago my client contacted me to say she was selling her home. Both her husband and she had decided it was time to separate and in doing so, they were going to sell their home.
I never like to see a couple separate or get a divorce, yet I know there are situations where that is the best for all concerned. From what she says, it appears this is one of those cases. My client is a gifted intuitive lady. She realized she didn’t want the next owners to come into a house with this mixed up – or as she put it, spiritually messy – energy. Hence, the Home Blessing.

With candles lit, this beautiful altar was created just for this home using items suggest by spirit to help soothe the energy to make the home “happy, healthy, harmonious and filled with joy” for a new owner.
When I do a Home Blessing on a “For Sale” house, I insist no one be at the home while I’m doing the Blessing. I need to focus on the energy in order to shift it to the “Highest and Best Good” for the new buyer. Working around plumbers, electricians, flooring installers, stagers, painters and landscapers under normal conditions can be challenging. When doing a Home Blessing, it’s impossible.
Thus the reason for doing a Home Blessing on Sunday. It was the only day within a three week period where there wasn’t going to be any contractors.
The reason I said she was karmically “paying it forward” is because my client knew the energy in the home was not an energy she wanted to “pass on” to an unsuspecting purchaser. In Feng Shui we call it “Predecessor Energy” – something we don’t want to leave behind in the house.
The home is beautifully painted, landscaped and staged. It is now a place of health, harmony and peace. Being able to actually do this Home Blessing on a Sunday was a blessing to me. Getting to the home a little after 8 this morning, it went more smoothly than I anticipated allowing me to get home and spend time with my family. I love it when intuition guides and I listen!

Blue Moon in July all aglow
Last night I was working on a book proposal into the wee hours of the morning. When I realized it was the actual time of the full moon, I went outside to see if I could indeed see it, especially since it is what I knew, or thought I knew, to be a Blue Moon.
What I had learned some time ago was the second full moon in a month called a Blue Moon. It has nothing to do with the color. I won’t go into details as to how they think the name came about. You can go to Wikipedia for that. What I learned there is fascinating.
The term “blue moon” does refer to an extra moon, but not the second one in the month. It refers to the third moon in a season with four moons. This was to correct “the timing of the last month of a season what would have otherwise been expected too early. This happens every two to three years.”

Silver lining around the clouds with the Buck Blue Moon just peeking out
Due to the rarity of the occurrence of four moons in a season, the term “blue moon” meant a rare event. Hence the phrase “once in a blue moon.”
I decided to look up the name for the July full moon. I learned several new pieces of information. First, the full moons have many names that come from Colonial America and the Native Americans. They used them as sort of a calendar to keep track of the seasons.
I know the October full moon is known as the Harvest Moon because it gave the farmers enough light to work all night long gathering the harvest. It turns out the July full moon is called the Buck Moon due to the bucks beginning to grow antlers at this time of year. I’d never hear that name for a July full moon. We had two full moons in July 2015 so they were both called Buck Moon. I’m calling this one the Full Buck Blue Moon.

Earlier in the evening before the clouds rolled in you could see the “fullness” of the moon and outline of the trees better.
The July full moon is also known as the Thunder Moon, because thunderstorms are frequent during the month. We’ve had thunderstorms (unfortunately without any rain, only lightening) here in Northern California many times this month.
I may start using the term Thunder Month in stead of saying July. Of course, I may have a few issues if I do. Somehow celebrating the Fourth of Thunder doesn’t have the same ring as Fourth of July. Plus the Founding Father’s might front on it as well.
Okay, I’ll use July as part of my calendar; but I’ll also start observing the seasons more in relations to how the Native Americans viewed them. I’m just not sure how I’m going to find a “buck” tonight while sitting in my backyard. We can take this “buck” comment many directions, so please share yours.

It’s rare to find a previously built home with an abundance of Feng Shui qualities and I’m excited to share them with you during an Open House on Friday, July 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 11688 Dawson Drive in Los Altos Hills.
This home is an ideal example of Classic Feng Shui. It is situated up on a hill with an incredible view of the city and commerce. According to Feng Shui principles, the more you can see the city and from where business opportunities can come, the more opportunities and prosperity the occupants will experience.
Starting at the entrance with the address, this home has taken advantage of every possible Feng Shui principle to attract, grow and keep prosperity, health, successful children and the Good Life.
The numbers of the address are 11688. Here is the short explanation of this. The number 11 means “the ability to develop metaphysical qualities and intuition” – a major quality utilized in today’s savvy businesses. The ending numbers of 88 means “to be a master executive with vision” like Steve Jobs with Apple as well as the “ability to manifest massive amounts of money.” Then you take the middle three numbers of 168 for a GRAND FINALE. The 168 in most Asian cultures equates to: “Make money all the way” or “Prosperity all the way.” What a powerful culmination of numbers to have as one’s address!
When driving onto the property, the chances are you didn’t notice the pattern in the circular driveway. An aerial view shows the circle is divided into 8 segments. The “8” represents money/wealth and what is known as the Eight Mansions of Feng Shui. These are the eight areas of life that, when balanced, bring us the love, joy, health, worldly- and self-knowledge, children, family, loving relationships, creativity, prosperity, fame, fortune, wisdom and helpful people most people want in their lives.
Heading to the front door, a person crosses over the arched bridge and is greeted by 2 dragon lions. The arched bridge delineates the “outside world with the entrance to the sacred realm of the home.” This threshold separating the worlds is one of the most powerful entrances you can have for any building. Think of the palaces and you’ll know what I mean. The dragon lions not only greet, they protect. They keep away all that is not good. All places of power in Asia have these greeters/protectors!
Finally you arrive at the front door. This beautiful copper door has inlaid in it the shape of the “Mouth of Chi” or the “Breath of Life” often seen at your Chinese restaurants. It is considered the best shape for a door to bring life and vitality to the building. Copper is the best metal material for the health and vitality of women. It does not hinder male energy. In fact, it supports the ability for all living in this house to be able to make better decisions.
The interior tiled entry boosts a reddish color. This is designed to attract all the good, high-vitality energy desired in a Feng Shui home of this quality. Red is the “activating” color – a color that attracts all good! Also upon entering, you cannot see directly through to the back of the home. This allows what is known as “Good Chi or Energy” to stay within the home and circulate, not run directly outside.
There are two staircases in this home. They are placed in the best possible locations according to Feng Shui principles. The circular one even goes so far as to have a large Ficus tree planted within it to raise the vitality of the home back up in an area where energy could otherwise be drained. This is a huge attention to detail from a Feng Shui perspective!
One of the most amazing Feng Shui features of this home is its positioning of the SWIMMING POOL. Very few people, including some Feng Shui Masters and most consultants, know this Feng Shui Principle. It’s the positioning of large bodies of water in relationship to the direction of the house. This house has a very large swimming pool on its east side. When the rays of the morning sun reflect off this pool onto the house, it is blessing the house with what is known as “Rainbow Energy.”
Rainbow energy is caused by the refraction of sunlight on the water streaming onto the house. This casts rainbows (the full spectrum of colors) onto the house, which, in turn, raises the vitality of the home and its occupants. This is considered to be one of the MOST INCREDIBLE FENG SHUI energies making this house a truly unique and amazing residence. It makes this house VERY AUSPICIOUS or VERY LUCKY, bringing much Good Fortune.
Not only is this pool located on the east side of the home, it is located in what would be considered the “wealth area” of the land according to the many Ba-Gua Schools of Feng Shui. A large body of water in the “wealth” area equates to the ability to amass large quantities of money and be able to hold on to it.
The home is located close to Highway 280 without being able to see it. This close proximity brings major business opportunities to this house without the unsightly view. This is a perfect house for anyone with an ENTREPRENEURIAL MENTALITY. The location in the hillside with lots of large green trees brings the energy of growth in business and personal endeavors. (By comparison, this same house on a hillside in the East Bay where much of the land covering is dried weeds and few trees would have very little growth and prosperity opportunities.)
For a home to have Good Feng Shui, we want to have the bedrooms be located on a different level from the main activities of the household, i.e., the living room, kitchen, dining areas. This home places the main family bedrooms on the lower level away from the overly active entertainment rooms upstairs. There is also a guest bedroom on the “active” floor where guests can stay, separating them from the “heart of the family” on the lower level. This is a PRICELESS arrangement according to Feng Shui.
What has happened to the previous occupants is an energy that most likely will occur for the next occupants. That’s why some Asians won’t buy certain homes. In looking at this home, there have been a series of Fortunate Blessings most people want.
The most recent family has lived here more than 10 years without any serious health issues. They raised 3 very wonderful, studious children who are doing very well in their adult lives. I believe one is a doctor. The family has loving relationships, their own very successful business and have been able to travel extensively. Money has not been an issue in their business or personal lives. They have moved from this lovely home that has served them extremely well because their children are grown, having moved away from home and graduated from college. They have downsized to a new home they have custom built to meet their new needs.
This recap of the previous occupants’ lives solidifies the success this house has brought due to its Feng Shui principles. If these are qualities you would like in your life, this house can support them.
THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE FENG SHUI HOME. THESE PROPERTIES ARE HIGHLY SOUGHTAFTER BY INDIVIDUALS WHO UNDERSTAND FENG SHUI’S POWER!!!
If there is an Asian buyer looking for a house with “Good Feng Shui”, they should be shown this house. In a demographic area where the culture understands the power and influence of Feng Shui, this house would easily command at least a 25%-35% ABOVE APPRAISAL VALUE. In evaluating homes for both buyers and sellers for over 30 years, I have seen rare houses like this one command as much as 50% above the appraised value. The buyers totally understand that the money they GRATEFULLY spend to obtain these houses will come back to them manifold – monetarily, better relationships, health and vitality, plus Fortunate Blessings.
Come see this wonderful home that incorporates so many Feng Shui principles on Friday, July 10 between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at 11688 Dawson. It will help you understand how a home can create “Prosperity All The Way!”
