Once in a Full Buck Blue Moon

Blue Moon in July all aglow

Blue Moon in July all aglow

Last night I was working on a book proposal into the wee hours of the morning. When I realized it was the actual time of the full moon, I went outside to see if I could indeed see it, especially since it is what I knew, or thought I knew, to be a Blue Moon.

What I had learned some time ago was the second full moon in a month called a Blue Moon. It has nothing to do with the color. I won’t go into details as to how they think the name came about. You can go to Wikipedia for that. What I learned there is fascinating.

The term “blue moon” does refer to an extra moon, but not the second one in the month. It refers to the third moon in a season with four moons. This was to correct “the timing of the last month of a season what would have otherwise been expected too early. This happens every two to three years.”

Due to the rarity of the occurrence of four moons in a season, the term “blue moon” meant a rare event. Hence the phrase “once in a blue moon.”

I decided to look up the name for the July full moon. I learned several new pieces of information. First, the full moons have many names that come from Colonial America and the Native Americans. They used them as sort of a calendar to keep track of the seasons.

I know the October full moon is known as the Harvest Moon because it gave the farmers enough light to work all night long gathering the harvest. It turns out the July full moon is called the Buck Moon due to the bucks beginning to grow antlers at this time of year. I’d never hear that name for a July full moon. We had two full moons in July 2015 so they were both called Buck Moon. I’m calling this one the Full Buck Blue Moon.

Earlier in the evening before the clouds rolled in you could see the "fullness" of the moon and outline of the trees better.

Earlier in the evening before the clouds rolled in you could see the “fullness” of the moon and outline of the trees better.

The July full moon is also known as the Thunder Moon, because thunderstorms are frequent during the month. We’ve had thunderstorms (unfortunately without any rain, only lightening) here in Northern California many times this month.

I may start using the term Thunder Month in stead of saying July. Of course, I may have a few issues if I do. Somehow celebrating the Fourth of Thunder doesn’t have the same ring as Fourth of July. Plus the Founding Father’s might front on it as well.

Okay, I’ll use July as part of my calendar; but I’ll also start observing the seasons more in relations to how the Native Americans viewed them. I’m just not sure how I’m going to find a “buck” tonight while sitting in my backyard. We can take this “buck” comment many directions, so please share yours.

Open House July 10: Feng Shui Principles Built Into Home Design at 11688 Dawson in Los Altos Hills

It’s rare to find a previously built home with an abundance of Feng Shui qualities and I’m excited to share them with you during an Open House on Friday, July 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 11688 Dawson Drive in Los Altos Hills.

This home is an ideal example of Classic Feng Shui. It is situated up on a hill with an incredible view of the city and commerce. According to Feng Shui principles, the more you can see the city and from where business opportunities can come, the more opportunities and prosperity the occupants will experience.

Starting at the entrance with the address, this home has taken advantage of every possible Feng Shui principle to attract, grow and keep prosperity, health, successful children and the Good Life.

The numbers of the address are 11688. Here is the short explanation of this. The number 11 means “the ability to develop metaphysical qualities and intuition” – a major quality utilized in today’s savvy businesses. The ending numbers of 88 means “to be a master executive with vision” like Steve Jobs with Apple as well as the “ability to manifest massive amounts of money.” Then you take the middle three numbers of 168 for a GRAND FINALE. The 168 in most Asian cultures equates to: “Make money all the way” or “Prosperity all the way.” What a powerful culmination of numbers to have as one’s address!Arial view

When driving onto the property, the chances are you didn’t notice the pattern in the circular driveway. An aerial view shows the circle is divided into 8 segments. The “8” represents money/wealth and what is known as the Eight Mansions of Feng Shui. These are the eight areas of life that, when balanced, bring us the love, joy, health, worldly- and self-knowledge, children, family, loving relationships, creativity, prosperity, fame, fortune, wisdom and helpful people most people want in their lives.

Heading to the front door, a person crosses over the arched bridge and is greeted by 2 dragon lions. The arched bridge delineates the “outside world with the entrance to the sacred realm of the home.” This threshold separating the worlds is one of the most powerful entrances you can have for any building. Think of the palaces and you’ll know what I mean. The dragon lions not only greet, they protect. They keep away all that is not good. All places of power in Asia have these greeters/protectors!

Finally you arrive at the front door. This beautiful copper door has inlaid in it the shape of the “Mouth of Chi” or the “Breath of Life” often seen at your Chinese restaurants. It is considered the best shape for a door to bring life and vitality to the building. Copper is the best metal material for the health and vitality of women. It does not hinder male energy. In fact, it supports the ability for all living in this house to be able to make better decisions.

The interior tiled entry boosts a reddish color. This is designed to attract all the good, high-vitality energy desired in a Feng Shui home of this quality. Red is the “activating” color – a color that attracts all good! Also upon entering, you cannot see directly through to the back of the home. This allows what is known as “Good Chi or Energy” to stay within the home and circulate, not run directly outside.Tree in center of house

There are two staircases in this home. They are placed in the best possible locations according to Feng Shui principles. The circular one even goes so far as to have a large Ficus tree planted within it to raise the vitality of the home back up in an area where energy could otherwise be drained. This is a huge attention to detail from a Feng Shui perspective!

One of the most amazing Feng Shui features of this home is its positioning of the SWIMMING POOL. Very few people, including some Feng Shui Masters and most consultants, know this Feng Shui Principle. It’s the positioning of large bodies of water in relationship to the direction of the house. This house has a very large swimming pool on its east side. When the rays of the morning sun reflect off this pool onto the house, it is blessing the house with what is known as “Rainbow Energy.”Swimming pool on East

Rainbow energy is caused by the refraction of sunlight on the water streaming onto the house. This casts rainbows (the full spectrum of colors) onto the house, which, in turn, raises the vitality of the home and its occupants. This is considered to be one of the MOST INCREDIBLE FENG SHUI energies making this house a truly unique and amazing residence. It makes this house VERY AUSPICIOUS or VERY LUCKY, bringing much Good Fortune.

Not only is this pool located on the east side of the home, it is located in what would be considered the “wealth area” of the land according to the many Ba-Gua Schools of Feng Shui. A large body of water in the “wealth” area equates to the ability to amass large quantities of money and be able to hold on to it.

The home is located close to Highway 280 without being able to see it. This close proximity brings major business opportunities to this house without the unsightly view. This is a perfect house for anyone with an ENTREPRENEURIAL MENTALITY. The location in the hillside with lots of large green trees brings the energy of growth in business and personal endeavors. (By comparison, this same house on a hillside in the East Bay where much of the land covering is dried weeds and few trees would have very little growth and prosperity opportunities.)

For a home to have Good Feng Shui, we want to have the bedrooms be located on a different level from the main activities of the household, i.e., the living room, kitchen, dining areas. This home places the main family bedrooms on the lower level away from the overly active entertainment rooms upstairs. There is also a guest bedroom on the “active” floor where guests can stay, separating them from the “heart of the family” on the lower level. This is a PRICELESS arrangement according to Feng Shui.

What has happened to the previous occupants is an energy that most likely will occur for the next occupants. That’s why some Asians won’t buy certain homes. In looking at this home, there have been a series of Fortunate Blessings most people want.

The most recent family has lived here more than 10 years without any serious health issues. They raised 3 very wonderful, studious children who are doing very well in their adult lives. I believe one is a doctor. The family has loving relationships, their own very successful business and have been able to travel extensively. Money has not been an issue in their business or personal lives. They have moved from this lovely home that has served them extremely well because their children are grown, having moved away from home and graduated from college. They have downsized to a new home they have custom built to meet their new needs.

This recap of the previous occupants’ lives solidifies the success this house has brought due to its Feng Shui principles. If these are qualities you would like in your life, this house can support them.

THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE FENG SHUI HOME. THESE PROPERTIES ARE HIGHLY SOUGHTAFTER BY INDIVIDUALS WHO UNDERSTAND FENG SHUI’S POWER!!!

If there is an Asian buyer looking for a house with “Good Feng Shui”, they should be shown this house. In a demographic area where the culture understands the power and influence of Feng Shui, this house would easily command at least a 25%-35% ABOVE APPRAISAL VALUE. In evaluating homes for both buyers and sellers for over 30 years, I have seen rare houses like this one command as much as 50% above the appraised value. The buyers totally understand that the money they GRATEFULLY spend to obtain these houses will come back to them manifold – monetarily, better relationships, health and vitality, plus Fortunate Blessings.

Come see this wonderful home that incorporates so many Feng Shui principles on Friday, July 10 between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at 11688 Dawson. It will help you understand how a home can create “Prosperity All The Way!”

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall, Causes Poor Sleep For All

Feng Shui has a number of “Dos” and “Taboos” associated with it, many of which sound crazy or superstitious, but when you are suffering from something without finding relief, why not try Feng Shui just in case it solves the problem.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, won't disturb me as night falls!

Mirror, mirror on the wall, won’t disturb me as night falls!

That has been the case with many of my clients throughout the years. One of my more recent “successes” – that has also been a success many times in the three decades I’m been doing Feng Shui – has been the relief of poor sleep by removing mirrors in the bedroom.

Some of the schools of Feng Shui – and there are about a dozen different schools, just in case you don’t know this fact about Feng Shui – says you should NOT have any mirrors in the bedroom. The belief is that you will have sleepless nights or nightmares. In some cases it is said to even cause health issues.

Now whether you believe it or not, if you or a loved one has not been getting a good night’s sleep for a while, check out the room to see if there is a mirror in it. If there is, that might be the problem.

There are several ways to resolve the issue. The easiest is to remove the mirror if that is possible. If by some chance it isn’t easy to remove the mirror – say you have a wall of mirrors or a large one attached to the wall – then the next best thing is to cover them at night while you sleep. This can be done with a scarf, sheet or blanket depending on the size of the mirror.

In the case of the sliding closet mirror doors, some of them can be turned around so the mirror is facing into the closet. If turning them inward isn’t possible, a drapery rod with hanging cloth drapes you can open and close as you desire, or need to do depending on the situation, can be a beautiful, decorative solution.

This most recent client had started snoring after placing a mirror in their bedroom. Their partner would wake up and move to another room due to the noise. The very first night the mirror was removed was the very first night they slept together in their bedroom in months or years (the exact length of time was not disclosed to me.)

Mirror, mirror on the wall – NO MORE DISTURBING OUR SLEEP since we MOVED YOU DOWN THE HALL!

No Sheepish Self-Care Here

As a Feng Shui Master, before I start telling others what they need to do, I make sure I use the information I have for myself first. Then if something needs to be adjusted, or it doesn’t work for some reason, I know first-hand about it.

One of the many schools of Feng Shui is a school based on the animal energy from the animal of the Chinese New Year. This year as many of you know is the Year of the Sheep, Goat or Ram. I do a summary teleseminar, and record it, sharing what to expect in the way of energies associated with each animal just before the Chinese New Year starts. It includes the qualities to expect and what we can do to maximize the beneficial energies about to arrive on our doorsteps.

This is what I accomplished from the "quick" workout I did today. I only did one weight-training station and the cycling machine.

This is what I accomplished from the “quick” workout I did today. I only did one weight-training station and the cycling machine.

I choose to call this the Year of the Sheep since sheep and goats are a more feminine energy of compassion and caring as opposed to the “head-butting” energy of the ram. One of the main points for us as humans is to take care of ourselves FIRST AND FOREMOST this year!

Last year was a challenging year for me on several levels. I discovered I had a partially torn ligament in my foot. To avoid surgery, I had to stay off my foot for over 5 months! It took a toll on my business and my self-esteem. I gained a lot of weight for me and felt very low self-esteem. As the New Year arrived – the Western New Year – I vowed to regain the previous me. This came about after I did my first Home Blessing in 6 months. I had trouble carrying my “purification tools” to the home and was exhausted when I did the 4-hour “blessing.”

I know me and knew I wouldn’t travel to a gym 15 minutes away. So I joined the YMCA, which is only 1.7 miles, or 7 minutes by car. I slowly worked at strengthening the upper body with a special focus on the legs through cycling and weights.

Linda, Wow! You've lifted over 1,000,000 pounds. That's the equivalent of 128 elephants!

Linda, Wow! You’ve lifted over 1,000,000 pounds. That’s the equivalent of 128 elephants!

To my surprise I was greeted earlier this week by this message from the exercise health coordinator, Christiane, via the tracking system they have at the Y. It says, “Linda, Wow! You’ve lifted over 1,000,000 lbs. That’s the equivalent of 128 elephants! 🙂 Christiane”

Self-care? Yes!

How do you lift an elephant? One pound at a time!

Secret Sauce for Sacred Spaces

What do you need for a sacred space? Awareness and intention!

Prepare plates with flowers and candles on them in order to place them in rooms within the home.

Prepare plates with flowers and candles on them in order to place them in rooms within the home.

A sacred space can be something as simple as a single rose in a vase or a spiritual icon. It could be a vortex of energy on this earth, like you find in the Sedona area of Arizona. Sometimes it is a moment in time when you feel that wonderful shiver up your spine when your body, mind and spirit are in alignment with your life purpose.

Is there a way you can create a sacred space? Here are a few tips in the “secret sauce” to creating sacred spaces:

  • Clean the space of clutter and dirt
  • Gather some candles
  • Bring items from nature into the mix
  • Flowers are a bonus due to color, beauty and fragrance
  • Musical instruments for sound vibration – bells and singing bowls are especially wonderful
  • Have a special cloth you use – it could be a towel, scarf or material specially made for sacred events
  • Essential oils and aromatherapy
  • Pieces of the earth, like rocks, crystals, shells and fossils
  • Holy water
  • White sage
  • Lavender seeds, petals or wands
  • Now, bring them all together to create an altar

I’ll share more ideas and steps in the secret sauce to sacred spaces soon.

Starting Fresh for Spring Using Feng Shui Principles

Spring has officially started and with that there are several things we can do to create fresh energy in our homes, thus moving the desired energy we want to fill our lives using Feng Shui principles. I’ve shared some of these with you as part of the Chinese New Year celebration. If you haven’t read those, please click here.

In Northern California, where I live, we have had gorgeous, warm weather for several months. (Yes, we are concerned about the drought). Spending time outdoors, there is a tendency to ignore the needs of the home inside. But knowing the house is a symbolic model for our body, cleansing is a good thing to do this time of year.

Here’s a list of 5 things to do to change the old energy and improve your life.

  1. Clean around all the doors. They are the main location where energy enters the home. Sweep up the leaves. Pull the weeds from around the walkways leading up to the doors. Wash off the door and polish the handles. Oil the hinges.
  2. Windows may be the eyes to the soul and in Feng Shui they are literally our eyes. It’s time to clean the windows to let the sun shine in. Washing off the screen will allow FRESH air to enter more easily. It also improves the visibility. I can’t tell you how much more light enters my rooms after cleaning mine! We’ve done a lot of remodeling, so the construction dust has clogged the screens. It’s extremely freeing and uplifts the home with the crisper views and fresh air.
  3. Get rid of any catalogs you have left from the holiday shopping frenzy. This is LAST YEAR’S ENERGY! We don’t want to keep any more of the Year of the Horse energy around. It is too wild and scattered. We are creating a year of comfort, compassion and peace for our families. Shopping is not an integral part of this Sheep year’s energy.

  4. According to this year’s Yearly Animal Feng Shui, several locations receive tremendous benefits from fresh flowers. And who doesn’t enjoy fresh flowers? Here’s the Year of the Sheep link to find out more for only $36 instead of the website price of $97.
  5. Spring cleaning is something most of us do just because it feels so much better. In Feng Shui, there is additional meaning behind many of the tasks we perform. Cleaning bathrooms supports our health. Vacuum under the beds to get a good night’s sleep (and please don’t store anything under the bed). Remove clutter from the center part of the house to reduce stress, improve heart function and bring more love into the home, infusing family members with this heart-felt energy.

This might take a little while to do. Yet every little change you make will exponentially improve the quality and vitality of your home and your life!
